Soul contracts: when a connection goes beyond this life
There are connections you cannot explain. Relationships where you find yourself in a way you find nowhere else — or where you have lost something of yourself in a way that feels like losing a piece of who you are. People where you know, deep down, that something more is at play than what is visible on the surface. That experience is not a coincidence. It is often the sign of a soul contract: an agreement made at soul level, often in another lifetime, that is still influencing you now.
What is a soul contract?
A soul contract is an agreement the soul has made with another soul — before or during a particular life, sometimes out of love, sometimes out of guilt, sometimes out of a deep conviction that you owe the other person something. These contracts do not automatically expire when a life ends. They travel with you. They show up again in new relationships, new patterns, new situations that look different on the outside but feel exactly the same from within. That feeling of "I should have left long ago, but I can't" — that is often a soul contract doing its work.
Contracts can take the form of protection promises: I will always be there for you. Of karmic marriages that have been running for generations. Of agreements around mystery schools, teaching, shared tasks at soul level. They are made in a reality that is not ours, but they operate in ours. And as long as they remain unconscious, they steer. You think you are making a choice; in reality you are following a script you wrote yourself and long since forgot.
How do you recognise a soul contract?
One of the most recognisable signs is the combination of attraction and exhaustion. Someone who draws your energy and simultaneously takes something from it. Relationships where you seem to grow smaller over time — not because the other person is consciously taking something from you, but because there is something structural in how your energy moves between you. Your light goes automatically toward the other. You shine when they are near, but somewhere you also know that something is off — that you are compensating for an emptiness that is not yours.
Another signal is the impossibility of a real goodbye. Not the pain of loss — that is normal — but the fear. The panic. The feeling that if you let go of this connection, you no longer know who you are or where you begin. That is not love holding you. That is a contract. And contracts can be dissolved.
What is also recognisable: the conviction that you owe the other person something, even when you know rationally that you do not. Guilt that goes deeper than the situation at hand. The feeling that you must protect, support, carry the other — not out of free choice but out of something that feels like an obligation you never consciously agreed to.
What happens when you let it go
Dissolving a soul contract is not only an emotional process. It is also an energetic one, and sometimes a ritual one. Something needs to be given back to the energy that has been holding the contract in place. Something you are holding onto, something that hurts to release — that very thing is what makes the movement real. Not as punishment, but as the closing of a circle. Duality asks for a form of equivalent: what has been bound in matter is also freed in matter.
What comes after is often surprising. People expect relief, and it is there. But what is also there is space. Real space. A kind of field that suddenly becomes available — to place in it something that is genuinely yours. Not what you took on from the other person, not what you dragged along from a previous life, but what you are, what you want, what you can create when your own energy is fully back. That space can feel just as frightening as the connection itself did. You know the connection. The space is new. But it is a beginning — of a path that for the first time is entirely your own.
The fear of growing
What I regularly see in people working with soul contracts is a specific fear: the fear of their own light. The fear that if you fully become yourself — as you are at soul level — you will become too large for ordinary life. That you will no longer fit. That the people around you will no longer be able to follow. That fear is real, and it often has roots in other lives — lives in which growing, shining, standing out was punished. And so you keep yourself small, maintain the connection with the other, carry their energy instead of allowing your own soul to incarnate fully.
But it is your own light you are carrying. It has always been yours. And the larger you become, the more you can offer that energy to the people who are ready for it — not as a service, not as a gift, but simply as presence. That is a fundamentally different energy than the energy of a contract. The contract costs. Presence gives.
If you recognise what is described here
If something in this blog has touched something — a recognition, a question, a feeling of "this is about me" — that is not a coincidence. These are signals worth taking seriously. In a reading I look at the energetic bonds that are influencing you: which contracts are there, where they come from, and what is needed to dissolve them. Not as a quick fix, but as honest and thorough work at soul level.
